BOSTON, MA — Buried in the Yankees thrilling 5-3 win over the Red Sox on Saturday, was one of the best at-bats of the season by Cody Bellinger against Red Sox Closer Aroldis Chapman.
Chapman has been one of the game’s best relievers this season, making a huge bid to win the “Mariano Rivera Reliever of the Year” award, and may even receive some Cy Young considerations. Chapman went 15 appearances (45 hitters) without giving up a hit, much less a run until this past Wednesday in Sacramento, surrendering two hits and a walk-off RBI double to Lawrence Butler.
Chapman did it again, this time it was not a walk-off. After getting the first two outs on hard-hit line-outs from Grisham and Goldschmidt, before Aaron Judge smoked a ball right up the middle for a single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.

With Judge at second base, this set the table for Cody Bellinger to deliver one of the best at-bats I have ever seen off of one of the game’s best relievers.
Bellinger went down 0-2 in the at-bat and kept fouling off pitches and had some really good takes before working the count full and driving the ball off the Green Monster to give the Yankees a huge insurance run, and in my opinion, took the wind out of the Fenway Faithful’s sails.

“ Honestly, just grinding it out. Um, you know, Judgy really good at bat in front of me and really just pass to the, to mentality.” Bellinger said, recapping his ninth-inning at-bat.” Jazz’s behind me, he is red hot and, um. Just having fun. You know what a great atmosphere it is here and we’re playing good baseball, so we’re just trying to roll and keep it going.”
“That was sick” Jazz Chisholm Jr. said of Bellinger’s at-bat against Chapman. “My dream is to get a hit against him and I haven’t in three at-bats”.
“We’re in September, right? He was so great for so long, that it’s gonna happen, right?” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said postgame about Chapman’s overall recent performance. “But hopefully tomorrow we’ll get the lead, he’ll get the ball and get three outs, and we move on.”
Boston will turn to their southpaw Ace looking to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Yankees.
