BOSTON —The Yankees sent their stopper, Max Fried to take on the Red Sox for the first time as a Yankee, to end the two-game skid, and four-game skid against the Red Sox this season, unfortunately, he could not be the stopper.

Max Fried was not awful, but in a stretch of games where your offense has been struggling, every mistake is costly, and the two runs he gave up were costly. Fried gave a run up in the first inning after a 2-out triple, surrendering a 2-out RBI single, then Devers took him deep with a solo shot in the fifth. That is the most runs he had given up following a Yankees loss.

  • The Yankees offensive woes continued today, after Grisham lead off the game with a double off the monster and Bellinger with a two-out walk. The Yankees did not have a lead this weekend at Fenway.

  • For the third time this weekend, a Yankees base runner gets picked off between second and third with two outs with the pitcher on the ropes, this time, it was Ben Rice. Aaron Boone, once again, did not hold his players accountable. Before this series, the Yankees were tied for the last in baseball with outs on the bases. They made three in this series.

  • The Yankees offense fell off a cliff this weekend and they were simply overmatched by the Red Sox every which way. It feels like every time they come to Fenway in June, the season falls apart for the Yankees, where the pitching falls apart and the offense falls asleep.

  • The Yankees had a chance in the eighth inning to tie or go ahead in the game, after Goldschmidt and Grisham lead the inning off with back-to-back singles, but a LeMahieu strikeout and a Judge double play ends the threat. Judge has had an awful weekend. He went 1-for-12 with a HR, nine strikeouts and a GIDP.

  • This is the third time this season the Yankees have been shut out, second on the road and twice within the pat week and a half.

  • The Yankees did something they had not done since 1922, scoring four runs in a three game set at Fenway park, their lowest in a 3-game set.
