THE BRONX, NY — The Yankees and the Red Sox will match up in the postseason for the first time since the Wild Card game at Fenway Park in 2021.
The Yankees, 94-68, will play host to the bitter rival 89-73 Red Sox at 6:08 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, for what will be the second AL Wild Card Series to take place that afternoon.
New York, ending the regular season on a season-high eight-game winning streak, owns the best record in baseball dating back to August 11, including going 3-4 against the Red Sox in that timeframe. The Red Sox have had their way with the Yankees this season, going 9-4 in their thirteen matchups.
Tuesday will be a battle of the southpaw aces, with the Yankees sending out Max Fried, who signed an eight-year, $218 million dollar deal this past offseason, for his first postseason start in pinstripes. The Red Sox will send out Garrett Crochet, one of the best pitchers in baseball, for his first career postseason start after being brought in via trade from the White Sox over the offseason.
On Wednesday, the Yankees will be sending out lefty Carlos Rodón, who is having his best season as a Yankee, posting a 3.04 ERA in 33 starts for the Bombers. The Red Sox will send out right-hander Brayan Bello, who has struggled in the month of September, to oppose Rodón in his first career postseason start.
If there is a game on Thursday, the Yankees will be sending out rookie and Massachusetts native Cam Schlittler, who has been a spark plug to the Yankees’ pitching staff since being called up in late July, posting a 2.96 ERA across 13 starts. The Red Sox have not announced a starter for Game Three as of Sunday night.
All games will be televised on ESPN. A start time for Thursday’s game is pending the outcomes of the other Wild Card matchups.
