NEW YORK — The Yankees are getting some fresh arms ahead of the subway series, aiming to stabilize the leaking bullpen.
Clarke Schmidt was placed on the 15-Day IL with right forearm tightness and will undergo an MRI today. There is not too much optimism surrounding the situation.
The Yankees optioned RHP Clayton Beeter after just one appearance. Beeter gave up three earned runs in an inning and two-thirds, and taking the loss. Beeter did not look sharp at all, and if effective, the Yankees could have won the game.
The Yankees recalled RHP Scott Effross from AAA Scranton. Effross pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and no runs on just seven pitches on June 17th. Effross has showed some promise through his time in the majors, and if effective, could be a major boost to the bullpen.
Jayvien Sandridge was also recalled by the Yankees today. The lefty has been with the team twice this season, but is yet to make his major leauge debut. In 10.1 innings for the RailRiders, he is posting a 0.87 ERA with two saves, but has also waked five in that short timeframe.
