THE BRONX, NY — Aaron Boone met the media earlier today to discuss the AL Wild Card Series looming against the Red Sox this week.

Aaron Boone confirmed on Monday that rookie Cam Schlittler will be the Game Three starter for the Yankees, if the game is necessary. Schlittler, who was called up out of necessity due to Clarke Schmidt undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery in July, has been a revelation for the Yankees, posting a 2.96 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 14 starts. While Schlittler has not faced the Red Sox in his career yet, he will almost certainly be up to the test against the team he grew up rooting for.

Aaron Boone also told the media that Austin Wells will get the start behind the plate despite Crochet, a lefty, being on the mound. Behind the plate, Wells is the best defensive option for the Yankees due to his ability to block balls and frame strikes. Wells has also had measured success against Crochet, with two hits, a double, and a home run. Paul Goldschmidt will most likely get the start against the Boston ace. Goldschmidt is considered the Yankees’ best defensive option at first base and has elite numbers against left-handers this season, though he is 1-for-9 against Crochet.

Aaron Boone was asked and confirmed that Jazz Chisholm Jr. is fully healthy and ready to go for the postseason. However, in the Yankees’ attempt to load up on righties against Crochet, don’t be surprised if Chisholm Jr. begins the game on the bench. Amed Rosario will also be in play for the start tomorrow.

Aaron Boone did not have an answer for the role that RHP Will Warren will play this postseason. Warren, who last pitched on Friday, could be used out of the bullpen as a long reliever but has been ineffective against the Red Sox this season, posting a 9.42 ERA in 14 2/3 innings of work. If the Yankees advance to the ALDS, Warren’s roster status should become more clear as a defined role opens up for him.
