NEW YORK — With the Yankees continuing their search for infield help ahead of the trade deadline, another name has emerged as a potential target — Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes. While Hayes isn’t known for his offensive production, there is still believed to be some untapped potential at the plate. What truly sets him apart, however, is his elite defense. Adding Hayes would immediately solidify the Yankees’ infield, particularly on the left side, where defensive consistency has been an issue.

The connection between Hayes and the Yankees also has some history. His father, Charlie Hayes, was acquired by New York from the Pirates at the 1996 trade deadline. Charlie went on to catch the final out of the World Series that year, helping the Yankees capture their first championship since 1978. A deal for Ke’Bryan would bring things full circle nearly three decades later.
