TAMPA BAY — Aaron Boone provided some injury and roster notes today on WFAN, as well has his weekly interview with Jomboy and Jake.

Aaron Judge

Aaron Judge will not play the outfield in the series in Tampa Bay. “I’m waiting on the trainers to kind of say, yeah, thumbs up.” Boone said to Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata on WFAN. “I know he’s expected to long toss today. So I don’t expect it here in Tampa. Could it be Boston? Maybe. I just don’t know yet.”

Understandably, the Yankees are being cautious with Judge, not wanting to make any lingering injuries worse. “I don’t think we’re going to see him back to throwing like he normally does at any point this year.” Boone said. “We’re trying to get through where he can let it go with ease and be able to protect himself.” This quote implies that Judge will not be 100% for the rest of the season and that they are saving him for the field till it is an absolute necessity.

Aaron Boone also spoke to reporters about his progress in Tampa today, telling MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch “I don’t know why he said that. He hasn’t seen me throw for the past two weeks, so I’m pretty confident I’ll get back to [100 percent].”

It seems that the two sides are conflicting on the matter, which is somewhat common when it comes to the Yankees and the handling of their players with injuries. I think the team is trying to be extra cautious with their franchise player — regardless what Judge says. Having Judge for the long hall is much more valuable to the Yankees than having him for the sort term.

Fernando Cruz and Ryan Yarbrough

Both Fernando Cruz and Ryan Yarbrough have begun their rehab assignments with the RailRiders. Cruz is still on track to be activated during the series against the Red Sox, but no word yet on Yarbrough’s timeline due to a longer buildup for longer outings.

Jonathan Loaisiga

Jonathan Loaisiga began a rehab assignment on Sunday with the RailRiders, pitching one inning, not allowing a run. If the Yankees can get the Loaisiga we had prior to this season, that is a huge boost to this bullpen going down the stretch.

Amed Rosario

Amed Rosario will be activated off the 10-day IL today, Boone confirmed this morning. Rosario gives the Yankees more options against left-handed starters, and allows the Yankees to have more of a platoon advantage off the bench late in games. J.C. Escarra was optioned to AAA as the corresponding move.
