NEW YORK — Instant reaction as the Yankees drop the series against the Astros at home and fall to 62-56 on the season.

  • The Yankees go down in order in the ninth.

  • Tim Hill comes in and gives up a homer to Correa. It should be said that Hill has struggled against right-handed batters, so putting him in the game today while trying to come back really makes no sense. Then, the Yankees left Hill in to die on the mound and he ended up giving up three runs — after putting runners on second and third, no outs —

  • Brent Headrick pitched two hitless innings, striking out four in the process. Headrick has looked really good more times than not this season and should be used more in big spots.

  • The Yankees loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning and McMahon hit a pop-up to shallow left field, but the Astros were caught sleeping and Jazz scored making it a sac fly. Wells would fly out on the next pitch to end the inning.

  • Judge is 3-18 since coming off the IL after going 0-3 with a walk today (F9, GIDP, F8)

  • The Yankees were healed hitless for 5.1 innings, until Ben Rice poked a one-out single into left.

  • Devin Williams — placed in lower leverage — struck out the side in the sixth inning.

  • Max Fried was only able to go five innings today. He has a 6.00 ERA since July 1st. To be fair, he did get squeezed on a few calls at home plate that directly lead to two runs, but he still labored a lot today.

  • Aaron Boone was ejected from the game in the bottom of the third inning for arguing balls and strikes. Boone claimed that home plate umpire Derik Thomas had missed four calls at that point — which he did.

  • Max Fried struggled to get the third out today. Fired pitched five innings, surrendering four runs, and all four runs came with two men out.

  • Max Fried’s day got started by getting the first two batters out on four pitches, then gave up a homer to Jose Altuve (his second of the series)
