TORONTO, CA — The Yankees will face the Blue Jays in Game 2 of the American League Division Series, needing to salvage a win before coming back to the Bronx.
Yankees ace Max Fried will be taking the bump for the Yankees. In his first postseason start with the Bombers on Tuesday, Fried pitched 6.1 scoreless innings against the Boston Red Sox, though fans debate that Fried should have been left in the game. Fried has opposed the Blue Jays four times this season, posting a 4.07 ERA in 24.1 innings, though two of those starts were around his mid-summer slump.
Opposing the Yankees will be rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage, who is making just his fifth Major League start. The Blue Jays called up Yesavage earlier this season after an impressive run in Triple-A, where he showcased a strong fastball-slider mix and advanced command for his age. Through his first few outings, he’s flashed potential but also shown the expected inconsistency of a young pitcher adjusting to big-league hitters. Yesavage has averaged around five innings per start and features a fastball sitting in the mid-90s, complemented by a sharp breaking slider and a developing changeup. The Yankees will look to test the rookie’s poise early, especially with their patient lineup capable of driving up pitch counts and capitalizing on mistakes over the plate.
