TORONTO, CA — The Yankees will face the Blue Jays in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. This will be the first time that the Yankees and the Blue Jays matched up in the postseason.

Reigning AL Rookie of the Year, Luis Gil, will toe the slab for New York in his first postseason start since Game Four of the 2024 World Series against the Dodgers at Yankee Stadium. Gil has not looked the same this season, though the numbers on the surface look good. Gil has walked way too many batters and the whiff numbers are down since last season. It is pivotal that Gil throws strikes today against a good Blue Jays team. His last time out, Gil pitched six innings of one-run ball, and took the win.

Opposing Gil will be the veteran Kevin Gausman. Gausman has had a solid year, and has pitched well against the Yankees in three of his four starts this season, including eight innings of one-run ball his last time out on September 5th. Gausman did struggle in the latter part of the month after that start, so there is no telling which version the Yankees will see today. Judge, McMahon and Goldschmidt all have very good numbers against Guasman, while Volpe and Rice do not.

Below are tonight’s lineups for the Yankees and the Blue Jays.
