Takeaways

The Offense

The offense got started right away with a solo shot from Goldschmidt to lead things off. The Yankees kept the pressure on Patrick Corbin through much of his outing. Aside from the Giancarlo Stanton two-run home run, the Yankees offense was shut down from then on.

The Yankees could not even score their ghost runner in extras, something they can never seem to do in extra innings.

Starting Pitching Analysis

Max Fried labored today. He gave up four runs in the second inning but nothing after that. He really found his command towards the end of the outing. It is safe to say that after a strong start to the year, some fatigue has set in.

Bullpen Usage

The good: Weaver, Doval and Bednar all worked quick and efficient perfect innings against the Rangers lineup, bouncing back from previous collapses.

The bad: Holding onto a 1-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, Williams blows his second consecutive save, giving up a game-tying home run to Joc Pederson who has not had a great season. The Yankees would be walked off in the 10th inning on a three-run homer by Jung
