MINNEAPOLIS, MN — When the Yankees lineup was released today, it was noticed that shortstop Anthony Volpe was out of the starting lineup for the fifth game in a row.

While it was understood last week, with the cortisone shot occurring on Wednesday, it was a puzzling decision as manager Aaron Boone had previously said that Volpe was abatable off the bench.

Aaron Boone confirmed on Monday that Volpe was healthy enough to start tonight’s game, but he was still not in the lineup. Volpe’s performance on the field was not great for the majority of the season, and in a stretch where the Yankees need to win every game, albeit, the remaining games are against sub .500 teams, Caballero gives the Yankees the best chance to win.

“We’ll see” Aaron Boone said about the shortstop position. “Day to day.”

Boone had previously reiterated that Volpe is an important piece to the puzzle and the success of the team moving forward. Volpe will be available off the bench yet again.

Though Volpe keeps getting the vote of confidence from team officials, his absence from the lineup is a larger statement than anything the Yankees say.
