NEW YORK — Following a disappointing weekend at Fenway Park, the New York Yankees’ on-field issues — particularly their offensive struggles — were clearly exposed. Although the return of Giancarlo Stanton to the lineup should help improve the team’s depth, the Yankees still require additional reinforcements, specifically within the infield.

While the Yankees were recently linked to Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr., a source indicated that a deal is unlikely due to the current outfield surplus in New York. With Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Jasson Domínguez, and Trent Grisham already in the mix, and Stanton occupying the designated hitter role most days, there appears to be no logical fit for Robert Jr. on the roster.

The Yankees are expected to platoon Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt at first base moving forward. Goldschmidt continues to excel against left-handed pitching, while Rice is more effective against right-handers. DJ LeMahieu has performed well since returning from the injured list, but whether he can sustain that production remains uncertain. As a result, the Yankees remain in the market for a right-handed infielder — a stance that has not changed.

To guard against potential injuries or regression, it would be prudent for New York to aggressively pursue infield depth at the trade deadline. The team must also consider Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s durability concerns, as he has struggled to stay healthy. One realistic option could be Pittsburgh’s Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who would provide a reliable platoon bat capable of stepping into the lineup as needed.

With the trade deadline approaching, the Yankees must address their offensive shortcomings. It is now up to General Manager Brian Cashman to take action.
