CINCINNATI — The Yankees lackluster play continued today in their latest loss to Cincinnati, with the lack of situational awarness costed the Yankees yet again.
THE OFFENSE:
The offense scored four runs today in 11 innings. One of the runs was on a wild pitch and two were on a diving play that got past the fielder and was scored a triple on Volpe. Those four runs, were scored in two seperate innings. The Reds bullpen did not allow an earned run, and only allowed 1 hit in SEVEN innings of work. That is pathetic. The Yankees were once again 1–9 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base. You can’t win games by leaving a small village on bases.
THE BULLPEN:
Jonathan Loáisiga got knocked around today and did not look as sharp as he has as of late, though the home plate umpire missed a call that would have made the inning two outs and nobody on, instead it sparked a Reds rally. Jonathan Loáisiga noted in his postgame that he was not feeling great yesterday and was helped off the mound with the trainer after giving up the bases-clearing double to Encarnacion-Strand.
Fernando Cruz, Luke Weaver, & Devin Williams all looked sharp tonight, working scoreless appearances.
Mark Leiter Jr. pitched great in the bottom of the 10th inning, sending the game to the 11th inning. Leiter Jr. came out for the 11th inning and did not record an out. He did not look as sharp as he did earlier in the game.
THE MANAGER:
Aaron Boone had a bad night in the dugout tonight.
If Jonathan Loáisiga was not feeling great yesterday, presumably due to the heat, why would he be pitching in a big spot?
If Cruz was used in this game, why was he not used to begin the seventh inning knowing his strikeout pedigree?
After Mark Leiter Jr. threw 27 pitches in last nights game, why he pushed for two innings tonight?
Devin Williams threw nine pitches and looked great in the ninth, why was he, as your closer, not brought back out for the tenth?
Why was Dominguez used to pinch hit for Peraza against a righty reliever in the 10th inning and not Giancarlo Stanton?
It was defended postgame, but still makes no sense why Wells was swinging away, and at the first pitch, in the top of the 10th with no outs. Even a bunt in that spot gets the runner over with the chance to score a run.
JAZZ CHISHOLM JR.:
Jazz got ejected for the second time this season tonight, both arguing low balls and strikes. Jazz definity had a reason to be upset with the call, but homeplate umpire Mark Wegner let him have his say. Jazz kept barking during and between innings and Wegner had enough of his arguing and tossed him from the game.

The play was over and done with when Jazz continued to bark and got tossed. Jazz should have bit his toung in that spot because him getting tossed really put the Yankees in a bind, losing his bat in extra innings and having to put J.C. Escarra in to play defense at third and LeMahieu in at second base after pinch-hitting for Peraza. I love the emotion and frustration, but in that spot, you just can’t get ejected and put your team in a bind.
After the game, Jazz was asked what words got him tossed and was it warranted.“I got tossed for saying, ‘Why are you looking at me?’” Jazz said. “I don’t think that’s a good reason to toss anybody.”
I get he was baited a bit, but again, he kept barking and the YES network’s audio is very good, picking up Jazz saying “not even close” in the dugout.
The Yankees will look to salvage this series tomorrow with their Ace, Max Fried on the bump. It’s important to note that the Yankees will be short in the bullpen after the marathon today, so Fried needs to give the Yankees length.
The Yankees lead in the AL East is down to one game.
