NEW YORK — New series, same result. The Yankees have been deplorable offensively over the past five games, scoring just five runs, and have not had a lead since Thursday. In fact, the Yankees have not scored a run in their last 20 innings. They started an inning with a runner on second and no outs four times today, and did not score.
Injury/Roster News:
Luis Gil is scheduled to face live hitters on Saturday for the first time since being shut down in Spring Training.
Luke Weaver faced live hitters today, and looked sharp. Aaron Boone said they could make a decision on Weaver over the next two days, and Weaver could skip a rehab assignment. No decision has been made wether he or Williams will be the closer going forward, according to Boone.
Notes/Analysis:
FINAL: 4–0 LAA
WP: Hendricks (5–6) 4.79
LP: Warren (4–4) 4.83
Record: 42–30
Will Warren’s Final Line:
6.0IP | 6H | 3R | 3ER | 11K | 0BB | 93P | 4.83ERA
Will Warren’s outing was stronger than the final box score reflected. The three runs he allowed could all be attributed to defensive misplays, rather than poorly executed pitches. Warren exhibited some of the best command of his young career, consistently filling the strike zone and working into just two three-ball counts throughout the night.
Offensively, the Yankees were once again stagnant, failing to score a run and managing just four hits — two of which came from Giancarlo Stanton. The team did not record a single hit after the sixth inning. In total, the Yankees had only six baserunners, with just one reaching base after the seventh inning — a two-out walk by Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the ninth.
Aaron Judge’s struggles continued, going 3-for-26 since his off day last Thursday, which may have impacted his timing at the plate.
Reliever Ian Hamilton allowed another run, although it was unearned due to a catcher’s interference call. Meanwhile, Scott Effross made his season debut and impressed, giving up only an infield single and recording a strikeout in one inning of work.
After the game, Manager Aaron Boone addressed the team’s offensive struggles, stating: “Really focus on grinding out quality at-bats… and when we start to stack those, we’ll take off.”
The Yankees did not lose ground in the AL East over the Rays as they just lost to the O’s.
