NEW YORK — Amidst the rumors circling the Yankees third base search, a new name has emerged that should change how the Yankees, and their fanbase view the trade deadline.
Jim Bowden, former GM of the Cincinnati Reds and MLB insider for the Athletic was on Foul Territory this week and linked the Yankees to the Royals infielder. Looking at Garcia’s stats, he is exactly what the Yankees need right now. Garcia is the second best defensive third basemen — only behind Ke’Bryan Hayes — and he is a contact bat, which would be a great change of pace from what the Yankees do right now. I also believe that Garcia profiles well as a leadoff hitter, which has been a revolving door for the Yankees in recent seasons.

I also went through Garcia’s splits to see how he performs vs. right-handers and left-handers, and Garcia is really good against lefties, which is something the Yankees have been susceptible to this season.

Garcia is also a really good defender as I mentioned, something the Yankees need after embarrasing themselves in Toronto this week…and three weeks ago.

A hypothetical trade for Garcia — in a package for starter Seth Lugo and reliever Carlos Esteves — could look something like this:

It will take a lot to make a deal like this, and this could be an overpay but that is what it will take. The Royals are not going to give this package away for free — especially with the amount of control Garcia has left on his deal. If the Royals are listening, the Yankees need to do everything in their power to make the move.
I went through Garcia, and some other third base options for the Yankees on my podcast yesterday. Give it a listen:
