Takeaways

The Offense/Defense

The Yankees offense can hit home runs and that’s about it. I can’t remember the last time they had an RBI hit that did not leave the ballpark. The Yankees got four of their five runs on solo home runs. That is simply not going to get the job done going forward. The other run was on a Judge sac fly in the seventh inning.

The Yankees defense has commited six errors in their past 16 innings played. That is horrific. Today, the Yankees had two errors, one by Warren that he was able to pitch around and another by Goldschmidt that lead to a run then a three-run homer. Not good.

Starting Pitching Analysis

Will Warren did not pitch that bad tonight, only giving up a two-run Schwarberbomb. I would like the walks to come down, he walked three batters, one of them to no fault of his own due to the home plate umpire.

Bullpen Usage

Tim Hill and Luke Weaver were both ineffective tonight. They each gave up two earned runs, including Weaver surrendering a home run. The Yankees remain active in the high-end reliever market, and they need to make an acquisition soon. Ian Hamilton was the next out of the bullpen and he got two quick outs before walking Turner and giving up another Schwarberbomb. Scott Effross was the next out of the Pen and he continued the trend of giving up runs. Effross surrendered 4 runs.

The Yankees need to trade for relief help ASAP. Here are some names I suggest:

Up Next

  • Next Game: July 26th, 2025 (vs. PHI)

  • Probable Starters: LHP Ranger Suárez (7-4. 2.66) vs. RHP Marcus Stroman (2-1, 5.64)

  • Series Outlook: The Yankees look to even up the series against the Phillies.
