TORONTO — The 2025 MLB trade deadline is just a week away and the Yankees are hard at work trying to “go to town” at the deadline and make a huge impact. While the Yankees will not trade George Lombard Jr. or Spencer Jones at the deadline, they are hard at work trying to make a deal with some big time pitching prospects.

Ricky Ricardo, the spanish radio voice for the Yankees was taking the Yankees trade deadline on WFAN and mentioned that Cashman and the Diamondbacks are working on a blockbuster deal, that would likely be the majority of what the Yankees do at the 2025 trade deadline.

If I were the Yankees, I would not make this deal. First of all, Beeks is not the best reliever and throwing him in a bullpen that is already struggling would not be the best thing in the world.

Eugenio Suarez is not the best fit for the Yankees that they can acquire. He might be the flashiest name on the market, but he is another guy who strikes out alot, is not a good defender or a good base runner — something the Yankees need.

I think Merrill Kelly is a fantastic option for the Yankees to add, just not in this package. Kelly will be a free agent after this season and is a solid number three pitcher on a staff. I think Kelly would be a great option for the Yankees either during this season or in the offseason.

The Yankees, according to Rickie Ricardo, have also had conversations with the Pittsburgh Pirates revolving around a deal for Ke’Bryan Hayes, David Bednar and Mitch Keller. Depending on the return to the Pirates, the deal might be a better fit for the Yankees for a few reasons. The first is that all three players are under control for multiple years and will be able to contribute beyond 2025, putting the team in a better position going into 2026. The second reason is that the money coming in is not going to be a ton for the payroll, it would be a total dump for the Pirates.

The point is the Yankees are trying to make deals with teams to try and win now. The Yankees are seemingly going all-in on 2025, lets see if the Yankees pull the trigger and really do go all in.
