SCHEDULE:

The biggest concern for me heading into the ALDS remains the bullpen. Outside of David Bednar, who pitched all three games of the ALWCS, who do you really trust in a big moment? Devin Williams has been very good for a while now, and looked really great against Boston. Luke Weaver has been really bad as of late, including giving up two runs without getting an out on Tuesday. Camilo Doval has looked much better as of late and is working himself into the circle of trust, but did not pitch against Boston and neither did Mark Leiter Jr.. Fernando Cruz had a really good series for the Yankees, and hopefully this is the start of a good run for the team. Giving away free bases — whether walks or errors — in the postseason will cost teams big games.

The Yankees struggled against Toronto this season, particularly when playing north of the border. The Blue Jays’ home field advantage, fueled by their energetic fan base and deep lineup that does not strike out, consistently created problems for New York. To flip the script in this series, the Yankees must lean on the same formula that gave them success against Boston — playing disciplined, fundamental baseball.

That means executing the small things that don’t always show up in the box score — moving runners over, taking the extra base, throwing to the correct cutoff man, and limiting defensive miscues. The Yankees’ pitching staff must also pound the strike zone early to avoid giving Toronto’s power hitter, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. extra opportunities. When New York keeps the game simple and avoids trying to do too much, they often put themselves in the best position to win. If they carry that mindset into this matchup, they’ll have a far greater chance of breaking through in a building that has given them trouble all year.

Important to note that the Blue Jays roster does not include the likes of SS Bo Bichette and pitchers Jose Berrios, Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt. Bichette has given the Yankees fits this season, and not having him in the lineup should make the overall lineup a bit easier to navigate. As for Scherzer and Bassitt, having both out for Toronto is a big blow to their pitching staff in a five-game series, meaning that at least one of the games will need to be a bullpen game. Rookie Trey Yesavage is in play to potentially make a start in this series.

The roof will also be open for games one and two, the MLB announced on Saturday. Both games start at 4:08pm, so their might be shadows early in the game.

This will be the first time in MLB History that the Yankees and Blue Jays will face off in the postseason.

The series will start today with a 4:08 p.m. start time and will be televised on FOX.
