NEW YORK — Fresh off a disappointing road trip, the injury bug has hit another Yankees reliever, this time, its Mark Leiter Jr. Leiter Jr. was placed on the IL today with a left fibular head stress fracture, which is a small crack or severe bruising in the upper part of the fibula, which is one of the two bones in the lower leg. The fibular head is the top portion of the fibula, located just below the knee on the outside of the leg. This type of injury usually develops over time due to repetitive stress—such as running, jumping, or other high-impact activities—like pitching.

Mark Leiter Jr. told reporters that he sustained the stress fracture in his left leg covering first base in the extra inning game at Cincinnati. He has not been given a timetable for return.

Leiter Jr. has not been that great as of late, issuing a lot of walks and hard contact, and his defense has not done him any favors.

To take his spot on the active roster, Clayton Beeter has been recalled from AAA Scranton. Beeter appeared in one game this season, and it was not a great outing for him. Beeter struggled with his command and finding a put-away pitch, which resulted in three runs, and the eventual loss.

To say the Yankees could use a high-end reliever right now is a total and complete understatement, and Brian Cashman should work quickly and not wait this out.

More information to come.
