NEW YORK — Yankees right-handed reliever Jake Cousins is slated to undergo Ulnar Collateral Ligament reconstruction surgery, otherwise known as Tommy John Surgery.
Cousins, who has been rehabbing from an injury since the start of spring training, was pulled from his rehab assignment on Tuesday where he experienced elbow discomfort.
The loss of Cousins will certainly need to be addressed at the trade deadline, as the Yankees expected Cousins to return as a medium to high leverage arm in the backend of the bullpen.
