NEW YORK — The Yankees scored today! That’s a positive, but the “Boone June Swoon” is in full effect.

Injury/Roster News:

  • Luis Gil is scheduled to face live hitters on Saturday for the first time since being shut down in Spring Training.

Notes/Analysis:

FINAL: 3–2 LAA

  • WP: Neris (3–1) 7.82

  • LP: Cruz (1–3) 3.38

  • SV: Jansen (15)

Record: 42–31

  • Ryan Yarbrough’s Final Line:

  • 5.1IP | 5H | 2R | 2ER | 3K | 1BB | 67P | 3.90ERA

Ryan Yarbrough had a solid outing today, and kept the team in the game. He gave up two solo home runs and scattered a bunch of hits through, but only gave up the two runs and left with a no decision.

  • Jazz Chisholm Jr. breaks the scoreless drought at 30.1 innings, parking a solo homer into the second deck, tying the game in the second inning.

  • Bellinger would give the Yankees a lead, short lived (about six minutes), but a lead nonetheless with a solo home run into the short porch.

  • The Yankees bullpen was a ticking time bomb all night, and it went off in the eighth inning, when Fernando Cruz came on and walked three of the four batters he faced, loading the bases with one out. Tim Hill would come on and get a ground ball that looked like a double play, but Volpe booted the ball, allowing the go-ahead run to score. Volpe’s defense has been bad as of late, and his hitting has been worse, going 0 for his last 15.

  • Tim Hill would go on to get out of the inning.

  • In the eight inning, the Yankees got two on and no outs against the top of the lineup, but Grisham failed to execute a bunt, again, and popped up, leading to the Angels going to their bullpen to face Judge, who flies out on the first pitch he saw, I thought it was heading to the restaurant, but it was a routine flyout. Just a tick off. Bellinger, who had two of the three Yankee hits to that point, would foul out.

  • The Yankees lack of fundamentals were part of the reason they lost this game. Grisham needs to learn how to drop a bunt, and I don’t know why manager Aaron Boone took the bunt off in a 2–1 count, for Grisham to foul out and do nothing productive.
