THE BRONX, NY — Instant Reaction to the Yankees dramatic 3-2 walk-off victory in nine innings against the White Sox, clinching a postseason berth, moving to within one game of the AL East, and improving to 89-68 on the season.

  • Luis Gil began his night by working a scoreless first inning against the top of the Chicago lineup. Gil’s command was all over the place in the first, walking a batter and going 3-2 on every batter.

  • The Yankees had a chance to score in the first inning with a one-out walk by Judge, and a two-out single by Rice, but Grisham, Bellinger and Stanton all struck out in between, keeping the Yankees off the board.

  • Luis Gil worked s bounceback second inning, with three fly-ball outs, sandwiched with a two-out single.

  • The Yankees were able to score in the second inning on a leadoff walk by Chisholm, a one-out single by Volpe and a one-out RBI double by Austin Wells, but Trent Grisham would strike out and after the White Sox intentionally walked Aaron Judge, Bellinger flew out to end the inning and leave the bases loaded.

  • Luis Gil would work a scoreless third inning, around a two-out walk, a pickoff error and a wild pitch to get the runner to third base, all with two outs, but got the next hitter to fly out and end the inning.

  • The Yankees did not score in the third inning after the Chisholm two-out single. Ryan McMahon is 4 for his last 41.

  • Gil worked a really quick 1-2-3 fourth inning, getting his pich count back in order a but.

  • The White Sox actually pitched to Judge with two outs and a runner on first in the fourth inning — a flyout on the 3-0 pitch, and the Yankees did not score in the frame.

  • Luis Gil seemed to have changed his pitching techniques for the day once he found out what kind of stuff he had for the day. After seemingly hunting a strikeout early on, Gil pitched to contact for much of the rest of his outing, and became more pitch efficient.

  • The Yankees did not score in the fifth inning either, though Rice did have another hit, he was thrown out on the basepaths in an attempt to advance to second base. Stanton also struck out for the third time in the game, and the team has eight strikeouts on the day.

  • The White Sox would take the lead in the sixth inning after a fly ball fell between Grisham and Judge for a single, the immediately was followed by a two-run home run, to give the White Sox the lead.

  • Jazz Chisholm lead off the sixth inning with a single. The pinch-hitter Rosario would strike out, and during the Volpe at-bat where he too would strike out, Jazz Chisholm Jr. would get picked off trying to steal second, making it two costly baserunning plays in as many innings for the Yankees.

  • Fernando Cruz came in for the seventh inning and pitched a scorless inning.

  • The Yankees had the White Sox in a jam, with Judge up as the go-ahead run in the seventh inning with Grisham on first and only one out, and he grounded into an inning-ending double play.

  • Tim Hill came on for the eighth inning, and got the two lefties before giving up a two-out single to Vargas. The Yankees then went to Luke Weaver, and he got the final out of the inning.

  • The Yankee offense did not score in the eighth inning, leaving the tying run on third with two outs with Rosario striking out looking. The Yankees had their chances in this game, but blew them.

  • Luke Weaver allowed a leadoff double in the ninth inning, but was able to get the next three outs and keep this at a 1-run game.

  • The Yankees had first and second, no outs and Trent Grisham grounded into a double play, putting Volpe on third with two outs, and an intentional walk to Judge put runners on the corners with two outs for Bellinger who walked on a wild pitch that tied the game at two!

  • Jose Caballero followed up with a walk-off RBI single to win the game for the Yankees and send them to the postseason.
