THE BRONX, NY — Instant Reaction to the Yankees 4-3 win over the Blue Jays, improving to 80-63 on the season.

  • The Yankees got an early three-nothing lead over the future hall of famer Max Scherzer after Judge walk and a Bellinger single, Ben Rice worked a terrific at-bat and porched a ball to right for a huge hit, putting the Yankees up early.

  • The Yankees could not keep that three-run lead. Max Fried — who looked sharp to start the game — walks Kirk and gives up a double to Clement before an RBI single by IKF and a sac fly by Lukes. Toronto would tie the game in the third inning after a double and an E6 lead to another double, but Max Fried was able to lock-in to strand the runners on second and third with no outs and give his offense a chance to get the lead back.

  • The Yankees would punch right back with a Cody Bellinger RBI double after a Judge walk and stolen base.

  • Max Fried’s Final Line: 7.0 IP | 6 H | 3 R/ER | 1 BB | 4 K | 100 P | 3.02 ERA

    • Max Fried’s outing as a whole was not bad, but coughing up a three-run lead between the second and third innings. Fried was able to lock in through the final four innings of his outing, allowing just two hits. As the outing developed, his curveball usage went up, and due to how sharp that curveball was, it baffled the Blue Jays hitters and allowed them to navigate the lineup in a more effective manner, including retiring seven in a row to end his outing.

  • Devin Williams was the first out of the Yankees bullpen and though he got into some trouble, he worked a scoreless eighth inning.

  • David Bednar comes in and shuts the door on the game. The biggest play was this caught stealing from Wells in the ninth after a 1-out single.

With this win, the Yankees move to within two games of the Blue Jays in the AL East. A huge win in so many ways for the Yankees.
