ST. LOUIS — Instant reaction to the Yankees three-game sweep of the Cards, improving to 67-57 on the season.

  • The Yankees were hitless through three, but they broke through in the fourth inning, scoring three runs with some small ball with a walk from Chisholm, a double by Goldschmidt, an infield hit from Dominguez, a single from McMahon and a single from Caballero.

  • The Yankees could have had more, but the umpire made a brutal call on Grisham, leading to the

  • The Cardinals came roaring back after an E5 by McMahon lead off an inning and with two outs, Thomas Saggese hit a two-run double off Warren to get the Cards back in the game.

  • Warren would come back out for the fifth inning and after a single/E4 and a single would tie the game. Warren did not have his best stuff, though only one of the three runs he surrendered were earned.

    • Final Line:

  • Comilo Doval would come in and the first batter he faced — Yohol Pozo — took him deep to left-center to give the Cards the lead.

  • The Yankees would come storming back, after Grisham walked (and Cards manager Oli Marmol was ejected), Judge would loop a single, sending Grisham to third and a Bellinger sac fly would tie the game. Chisholm would strike out to end the inning.

  • Tim Hill and Luke Weaver would work a scoreless combined 2.2 innings in to keep the Yankees in the game and in the ninth inning, shut the door quickly.

  • More small ball? Yes please! Caballero hits a chopper to lead off the ninth that turned into an E4, putting him on second with no outs. A wild pitch advanced him to third with no outs. After walks to Stanton and Judge loaded the bases, another error for the second baseman Saggese — his second that inning — giving the Yankees two runs. Jazz would give the Yankees another run on an RBI groundout, then stole second and scored on an RBI double by Goldschmidt.

  • This is the first sweep by the Yankees since July 8-10th against the Mariners and the first sweep on the road since June 10-12 in Kansas City.

  • The Yankees are now 5-1 in their last six games and 6-2 in their last eight. Hopefully, this is the start of some good momentum.
