MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Instant Reaction to the Yankees 7-0 loss to the Twins, falling to 83-67.

  • The Yankees were held down offensively through the first three innings, mustering just three baserunners — two walks and a hit — but no runs.

  • Rodon would get into trouble to start the third inning, with a double then an infield single that should be scored an error on Caballero put the Twins in business. After Rodon struck out Buxton, another grounder would be hit to Caballero and he was unable to complete the double play, giving the Twins a 1-0 lead.

  • Jose Caballero was the story in this game, and not in a positive way. Caballero hit a 1-out double in the fifth inning and immediately got picked off trying to steal third. Just can’t happen. It’s plays like that that will cost teams games.

  • Carlos Rodon would give up a solo shot to Brooks Lee to lead off the fifth inning. He would then allow back-to-back one out singles before getting Martin to role into a 6-4-3 double play and end the inning.

  • The Yankees struck out eleven times against Woods-Richardson, a new career high for him and it tied a career high for innings pitched in a start. The Yankees offense sleepwalked through this one.

  • Luke Weaver was the first out of the Yankees bullpen and struggled once again. Back-to-back doubles began his outing before a sac bunt back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Martin who hits a bases-clearing double, making it 6-0 Twins.

    • Weaver has posted a 16.20 ERA — 6 ER, 3 1/3 innings — in the month of September.

  • Comilo Doval came on with a runner on second and one out, and after allowing an RBI single, he got a double play to get out of the inning.

  • Tim Hill worked a scoreless eighth inning.

  • The Yankees were shut down from the Twins bullpen, that has posed the worst ERA in Baseball since the trade deadline.

  • Stanton struck out four times in this game.
