THE BRONX, NY — Instant Reaction to the Yankees 9-2 win over the Tigers, improving to 81-65 on the season. With their 81st win, the Yankees have clinched 34 straight seasons of a record at or over .500, the second most in MLB history to the Yankees previous record.

  • After meeting the president in the clubhouse pregame, Aaron Judge gets the Yankees going early with a solo blast in the first inning, giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. It was Judge’s 45th home run of the season, his 99th RBI and his 360th of his career. One more home run and he will tie Joe DiMaggio for the fourth most on the Yankees all-time list. It was also Judge’s 18th first inning home run, tied for the most in MLB history with himself last season and Alex Rodriguez in 2001, per Sarah Langs.

  • Cam Schlitler would give the Tigers the one-run back after three consecutive singles plated a run. Schlittler was able to work out of trouble in the second inning and keep the game tied.

  • In the second inning, the Yankees got their offense going again with a leadoff single by Jazz and following his 28th stolen base of the season with one out, Rice lined an RBI double down the right-field line to I’ve the Yankees the lead. Jose Caballero would then ground an RBI single through the hole, making it 3-1 Yankees. This sequence marked the first time this series that the Yankees scored a run without hitting a home run.

  • In the third inning, Aaron Judge would tie Joe DiMaggio with 361 home runs, fourth most in franchise history. This was Judge’s second home run of the game, and 46th home run of the season.

  • After a poppet by Bellinger, Stanton would work an awesome at-bat, culminating in his 20th home run of the season — and remember, his season started on June 16th. This made it 5-0 Yankees.

  • The Yankees bats would not stop, as they put up a big four runs ins the fourth inning on get this — small ball. The Yankees would bat around in the inning, with a lot of balls in play and just one extra-base hit, which was Rice to lead off the inning. Slater, Bellinger, and Chisholm (2) were responsible for the four RBI’s.

  • Cam Schlittler’s Final Line: 6 IP | 5 H | 1 R/ER | 2 BB | 7 K | 0 HR | 95-62 P | 3.05 ERA

    • Cam Schlittler looked really good tonight, allowing just one run. There were only two innings — the second and the fifth — that the Tigers were really threatening. The fact that Schlittler was able to bear down and get through some sticky situations shows how good he really is. A really nice bounce back start after getting roughed up against the Blue Jays.

  • Ryan Yarbrough was the first out of the bullpen, and he surrendered a leadoff home run to Dingler in the seventh inning. He then got two more outs before walking Torres, then striking out Carpenter.

  • The Yankees had some really good at-bats off old friend Tommy Khanle, but left the bases loaded on two strikeouts (Slater and Judge) against Montero.

  • Ryan Yarbrough came back out for the eighth inning and worked a scoreless inning around a two-out walk and a two-out single.

  • The Yankees recorded at least one baserunner per inning tonight, which is good to see that the at-bat qualities have improved so far over the past few games. Let’s home these at-bats travel to Boston.

  • Ryan Yarbrough once again came out for the ninth inning for the shot at the save, and allowed one run on a triple, then an RBI groundout.

Following today’s game, the Yankees will no embark on a ten-game road trip, beginning with a three-game set at Fenway Park against the Red Sox.
