BALTIMORE, MD — Instant Reaction to the Yankees 4-2 loss to the Orioles at Camden Yards, falling to 86-68

  • The Yankees went down 1-2-3 in the first inning, aided by a really bad call by home plate umpire Adrian Johnson on a pitch clearly inside to Judge that was called strike three.

  • Will Warren retired the O’s in order in the first inning, also getting some help from home plate umpire Adrian Johnson.

  • The Yankees struck out twice again in the second inning, Slater at a pitch inside.

  • Warren gave up a leadoff no-doubt solo home run to Ryan Mountcastle to give the O’s a 1-0 lead. Warren would go onto get two quick ground ball outs before allowing back-to-back two out hits, then got Mayo to fly out and end the threat.

  • The Yankees, still without a hit, had runners on first and second with two outs, before Judge would be called out on strikes for the second time in as many at bats on really bad calls. Aaron Boone was warned by Adrian Johnson multiple times during the at-bat and following the inning.

  • Warren pitches around a two-out walk to Henderson in the third inning, aided by this awesome play by Judge in the inning.

  • The Yankees went down in order in the fourth inning after a Stanton one-out walk was erased by a double play off the bat of Rosario. The Yankees are still without a hit through four innings.

  • With some help by his third basemen, Will Warren completed a 1-2-3 fourth inning.

  • The Yankees went down 1-2-3 in the fifth inning, still being no-hit, though Volpe made great contact on a ball that was caught on a snowcone by Cowser in center.

  • Will Warren retired the O’s in-order in the sixth inning.

  • Austin Wells lead off the sixth inning with a single to break up the no-hitter. Dylan Beavers then proceeded to rob Goldschmidt of a two-run home run, then robbed Judge of a single. The Yankees did not score in the frame.

  • The sixth inning saw things unwravel for the Yankees. Warren began the inning by booting a ball, puting the leadoff man on, followed by Jazz commiting a throwing error to give the O’s runners on second and third with no outs. Warren would yield a sac fly, before getting pulled from the game after a 1-out walk.

  • Fernando Cruz took over with first and second and one out, and walked Jackson to load the bases with one out, getting Basallo to ground out, but that scored a run. Cruz then got Cowser to ground out and end the inning.

  • The Yankees would make this a one-run game in the seventh inning with a bloop two-out single by Slater and a clutch two-run home run by Jazz Chisholm Jr. It was Jazz’s 30th home run of the season, giving him a 30/30 season, the first Yankee to do it since Alfonso Soriano in 2002.

  • The O’s would punch right back after an infield single by Westberg off Tim Hill, followed by a bloop RBI double down the left field line, pushing the O’s lead to 4-2. Doval came in to finish the inning and got Mountcastle to fly out on his first pitch.

  • The Yankees would get some traffic in the eighth inning, but nothing across as Stanton grounded out to end the inning, leaving two in scoring position.

  • Mark Leiter Jr. pitched a clean eighth inning around a 1-out single.

  • The Yankees went down 1-2-3 against Keegan Akin in the ninth inning.
