Cam Schlittler worked a scoreless first around a two-out walk to Gunnar Henderson.

After Sugano got the next two batters out, Ryan McMahon stepped up and hit his fourth homer in pinstripes, giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead. It was McMahon’s 20th of the season, with sixteen coming from his time in Colorado.
