NEW YORK — Instant Reaction to the Yankees dropping Game one of the four-game set to the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium and dropping to 69-58 on the season. The Yankees are on a six-game losing streak against the Red Sox dating back to June 14th.

  • The Yankees committed three errors in the second inning to give the Red Sox a run. If the Yankees are going to go anywhere this season, they need to be better defensively. It began with a comebacker to Gil that he mishandles, then on a possible double play opportunity, Jazz throws the ball into the stands, then Rice threw a ball into center field.

  • Ben Rice would make up for his mistake by hitting a solo home run.

  • Jazz Chisholm Jr. would create a run by stealing bases and forcing a throw to second that got away. Paul Goldschmidt would single him home to give the Yankees the lead.

  • The Red Sox would tie this game on a sac fly by Nate Lowe after Luis Gil loaded the bases with nobody out. Gil was lucky to get out of the inning without allowing more than the one run.

  • Luis Gil’s Final Line: 5 IP | 4 H | 2 R/1 ER | 5 BB | 3 K | 93/52 P/S | 4.26 ERA

    • Luis Gil struggles a lot with his command, walking five batters, but was able to limit the damage and give the Yankees a chance to win the game.

  • The Yankees would retake the lead on a bloop RBI single from Jazz Chisholm Jr.. It always pays off to run, and Judge running with two outs made it possible to score on this play. The Yankees would go on to load the bases with two outs, but McMahon struck out to end the inning.

  • Comilo Doval came out for the sixth inning and struggled a lot. He allowed a run in a third of an inning.

  • Luke Weaver also struggled a lot today, allowing a single by Story, and RBI double to Lowe to give the Red Sox the lead, then walked two batters. After striking out Narvarez, Tim Hill would come in to escape the bases-loaded jam.

  • In the bottom of the seventh, Ben Rice hit a one-out triple, and showed some emotion while doing so. Against the lefty Matz, Chisholm would strikeout swinging and Goldschmidt would ground out to first base. The broadcast showed Amed Rosario ready to hit in the dugout and I think it would have been wise that the Yankees pinch-hit Rosario for Chisholm due to Rosario’s success against lefties, and Jazz’s lack thereof.

  • Tim Hill and Yerry De Los Santos would combine for a scoreless eighth inning, keeping the game within one run.

  • The Yankees would be retired in the eighth inning on seven pitches. McMahon, Volpe and Grisham were a combined 0-13 on the day. Volpe is now three for his last 21 and back in another offensive slump.

  • The Yankees had four errors on the game, and walked nine. Not the things you want to do when trying to win a game. The Yankees poor fundamentals contributed directly to their loss. This is the third time this season the Yankees have had at least four errors in a game.

  • After the Paul Goldschmidt E3, Yerry De Los Santos gives up a two-run home run to Roman Anthony — who is going to be a thorn in the side of the Yankees for a long time. It took the wind out of the building and make the moutian for the Yankees to climb impossible.

  • The Yankees would go down without a fight in the bottom of the ninth inning against former closer Aroldis Chapman.
