TAMPA, FLA — Instant Reaction to the Yankees overcoming a bullpen leak to sweep the Rays and go 5-0 on the roadtrip to St. Louis and Tampa Bay, and improving to 69-57 on the season.

  • Trent Grisham got the game started with a leadoff home run off Drew Rasmussen. That was just the second extra base hit — and first home run — by a Yankee of Rasmussen in his career.

  • In the fourth inning, Cody Bellinger lead the inning off with a single, stole second and then attempted to advance to third base on a hard lineout off the bat of Chisholm, but was tagged out on the way to third base. Per statcast, the ball had an 11% catch probability and took a perfect throw to nail the runner, which was delivered. To throw salt in the wound, Dominguez followed up with a single, that likely would have scored him from second base.

  • In the fifth inning, Austin Wells powered his first home run since July 25th. Wells has been struggling a lot at the plate as of late, so it’s good to see him begin to show signs of life at the plate.

  • Cam Schlittler’s Final Line: 6.2 IP | 0 R/ER |1 H | 2 BB | 8 K | 95-67 P/S | 3.22 ERA

    • Schlittler had a perfect game through six innings today and looked really good. The fastball and curveball command were awesome, and Schlittler was able to strike out eight batters on the night, seven of them swinging.

  • In the top of the eighth inning, Trent Grisham hit his second home run of the game and 23rd on the season. I did not have Trent Grisham hitting 23 home runs on the year in the cards, but here we are.

  • After a Rice single, Caballero came on as a pinch-runner and stole his MLB-Leading 40th base of the year.

  • Luke Weaver came in with the bases loaded and two outs and struck out Fedducia on three pitches. He would pitch one more inning, allowing a solo home run — the first homer he has surrendered since July 25th.

  • David Bednar came in and after striking out Diaz, walked Lowe and gave up a hit to Caminero and down to their last strike, gave up a game-tying double to Fedducia. A devastating blow.

  • Giancarlo Stanton would come off the bench in the 10th inning and hit a pinch-hit two-run home run off closer Pete Fairbanks. That is the second game-tying or go-ahead home runs Fairbanks has given up to the Yankees in consecutive appearances.

  • Austin Wells would follow up Stanton’s home run with a blast of his own, his second of the night. Good to see Wells heating up.

  • Devin Williams would come on for the 10th inning and after giving all Yankees fans a heart attack, he got the job done.
