CHICAGO, IL — Instant Reaction to the Yankees grity extra-inning win against the White Sox, improving to 76-60 on the season, and improve their season-high winning streak to seven games.

  • It took a bit for the Yankees to score today, but a solo home run by Aaron Judge in the fourth inning would give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. It was Judge’s 42nd home run of the season, and 352nd of his career, one away from tying Yogi Berra.

  • Cam Schlittler’s Final Line: 6.0 IP | 4 H | 1 R/ER | 1 BB | 8 K | 100-66 P/S | 2.61 ERA

    • Cam Schlittler has been something this season for the Yankees. Another quality start for Cam, allowing just one run over six inning of work. Schlittler threw a career-high 100 pitches through the six innings, striking out eight.

    • Cam Schlittler also took a line drive off his pitching arm. Postgame, Schlittler said that he is not feeling much pain, but he does expect a bruise. Because of Monday’s team off-day, Schlittler will get one extra day of rest, which will help with the healing process.

  • After Schlittler departed, his battery mate Austin Wells untied the game with a solo home run to right-center, giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead. That was Wells’ fourth home run in his last eight games.

  • Devin Williams was the first out of the bullpen and instantly blows the lead allowing a leadoff double and then a 1-out RBI single, tying the game at two.

  • After the top of the Yankees lineup went down 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth inning, Luke Weaver came on for the bottom of the eighth and worked a scorless inning around a two-out double.

  • David Bednar came on for the ninth inning and worked a scoreless ninth inning on 12 pitches to send this game to extras. Bednar stayed in for the tenth inning and dent the game to the 11th inning.

  • The offense did not score in the tenth inning. They are the worst team on the road in extras because unless they hit a home run, they don’t score runs. This time, Volpe had the right idea, but poor coaching and poor baserunning cost the Yankees.

  • The Yankees offense got to work in the 11th inning, scoring three runs on three hits to give Comilo Doval a three-run cushion to go shut the door in 11th inning.

  • The Jazz at-bat to me was the best of this inning. Going left-on-left to the opposite field was the perfect approach and weather or not the ball fell in that spot — which it did — it would have gotten the job done. It was great to see that Jazz did not try and hit a three-run shot in that spot, but was able to put a ball in play to get the second run of the inning home, allowing the bullpen to relax a bit in the bottom half of the inning.

  • Anthony Volpe continues his hot series against the White Sox with an RBI double to make the hill harder to climb for the White Sox in the 11th inning. Volpe has crushed lefties this season, and his numbers went up.

  • Comilo Doval worked a 1-2-3 11th inning, allowing the Manfred Man to score on two groundouts, but he struck out the pinch-hitter Quero to end the game. It marked Doval’s fourth straight outing without yielding an earned run — his longest stretch as a Yankee. If the Yankees can get Doval fully in-sync, this bullpen is going to be dangerous come October.

The Yankees were able to capitalize on both the Blue Jays and Red Sox losing their games before first pitch in this one. The Yankees are now up 1.5 games on the Red Sox for the top wildcard in the AL and only two games back of the AL East.
