NEW YORK — Instant Reaction to the Yankees 7-2 win over the Red Sox on Sunday Night Baseball to avoid the sweep and improve to 70-60 on the season.
The Yankees jumped out to an early two to nothing lead on a two-run home run by Jazz Chisholm Jr. off Dustin May. For Chisholm, this was an emotional home run for multiple reasons. The first, it was Chisholm’s 100th career home run and the second, he had someone close to him pass away yesterday after the game, and I am sure the emotion of the loss and the jubilation of giving his team the lead clashed for a really nice moment in the dugout between people. We often forget that athletes are people first and go through issues off the field just like us.
Career HR No. 100 for @j_chisholm3 👏

Jazz was emotional in the dugout after his homer and Judge comforted him
He had posted on Instagram last night about losing someone close to him. Sending good thoughts Jazz's way 💙

Trent Grisham would add on with a solo home run in the third inning. It was Grisham’s 24th home run of the season — another new career high.

The Yankees also showed that they can score runs without a home run in the fourth inning, with Stanton leading off with a 117.8 MPH double off the bat of Stanton, then a groundout advancing the runner, followed by a sac fly by Caballero.

Carlos Rodon’s Final Line: 5.2 IP | 2 R/ER | 1 H } 5 BB | 3 K | 103-59 P/S | 3.24 ERA
Rodon had a really solid overall outing, even though it ended on a sour note. Rodon relied on his defense a lot in the first five innings, but in the sixth inning — when the top of the lineup came up — the at-bats got a lot harder to navigate and it resulted in three walks sandwiching a hard flyout.
Luke Weaver was the first out of the bullpen, and allowed a two-run bloop single to Nathaniel Lowe, then, he struck out Duran to get out of the inning. Weaver then came out for the seventh inning and worked a scoreless seventh.

Devin Williams came in for the eighth inning and looked super dominant. He retired the heart of the lineup in order — including strikeouts of Anthony and Story. If Williams can continue his recent stretch of dominance pitching in the eighth inning, the Yankees are going to have a much better bullpen — especially with the return of Cruz from the IL tomorrow.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. saw Trent Grisham hit two home runs tonight and thought he could do the same, taking Walker Buehler to the short porch for his second two-run shot of the game.

Comilo Doval came in with a five-run lead in the ninth inning and got into some trouble after a leadoff single and a one-out double, but was able to work out of the jam and get the job done.
