NEW YORK — Instant Reaction to the Yankees dropping their third game in a row and eighth in a row to the Red Sox, dropping to 69-60 on the season.
The Yankees offense continued to struggle against Crochet. They when 16 consecutive inning without scoring a run before Stanton lead off the fourth inning with a solo shot to the short porch. It has been a consistent theme this season that the Yankees just can’t hit ace-level pitchers. Crochet struck out 11 in
Will Warren’s Final Line: 4.0 + IP | 7 H | 5 R/ER | 3 BB | 3 K | 1 HR | 4.47 ERA
Will Warren struggled today against the Red Sox. He allowed four runs in five innings of work and just could not seem to get into a groove. The defense did not help him at all, costing him two runs, but Warren did not help himself. Warren loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth inning and allowed two runs, but a solo shot off the bat of Story is what ended his outing in the top of the fifth inning.
Tim Hill was the first out of the bullpen and he worked an inning and a third of scoreless ball. Hill continues his dominance against Lefties and really kept the Yankees in the game in a spot where it could have fallen apart.
Paul Blackburn made his Yankees debut and lived up to his nickname. He was cruising through two and a third innings, before falling apart in the top of the ninth. The Yankees had a shot of keeping the game close, instead he allowed seven runs and allowed the Red Sox to blow this game wide open.
The Yankees began to mount a comeback in the eighth inning, but in true Yankee fashion, they could not complete the comeback. Judge hit a one-out double and Bellinger followed up with ta single, putting runners on first and third with only one out. Stanton struck out swinging and Chisholm — pinch-hitting for Rosario — also struck out, stranding the runners on base, much to the dismay of the Yankee fans in attendance who began to boo.
The Yankees will send Carlos Rodon out tomorrow looking to avoid the four-game sweep at home.
