MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Instant Reaction to the Yankees 10-5 win over the Twins, to take the series on the road and improve to 85-67 on the season.

  • The Yankees got the scoring started in the first inning, with a two-out double by Judge and a Bellinger RBI single.

  • Luis Gil would get into trouble and surrender two runs in the second inning after a walk, two singles, and a wild pitch. Gil’s command was all over the place in this outing.

  • Trent Grisham would power his 32nd home run of the season to tie the game in the third inning. Grisham has been so unbelievably clutch for the Yankees this season, and though it’s an early at-bat in the game, it still got the Yankees tied after giving up two runs.

  • Luis Gil would struggle again in the third inning, allowing a leadoff single, followed by a hit by pitch, but a huge double play, followed by a groundout ended the inning.

  • Paul Goldschmidt and Jasson Dominguez would hit back-to-back one-out doubles, to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. Dominguez was struggling with a toothache and took that pain out on the baseball he smashed to the gap.

  • With runners on second and third and two outs in the fourth inning, Trent Grisham would hit his second home run of the game and 32nd home run on the season to make it 6-2 New York.

  • Another run would score after a Rice double and a Judge single lead to a balk by the pitcher, Taj Bradley, making it 7-1 NYY.

  • Luis Gil would work a shutdown inning, helped by this incredible play at second base by Jazz Chisholm Jr. His range in this spot was awesome to see and it’s plays like this that can change the momentum in the postseason.

  • Luis Gil would not get out of the fifth inning, allowing a leadoff single, before getting two outs with a runner on first and allowed two singles, a walk and another single for three Twins runs, to make it 7-5 Yankees. That ended his night.

  • Fernando Cruz would come on with first and second, two outs to get out of a jam, and did just that, getting Lewis to line out. Cruz would then work a 1-2-3 sixth inning as well.

  • The Yankees offense had just one baserunner — a Bellinger hit by pitch — for the 5th, 6th and 7th innings.

  • Devin Williams pitched the seventh inning, and after a leadoff single and stolen base, Williams would strike out the next three, all swinging to escape the inning.

  • The Yankees took a different approach to the eighth inning, playing some small ball. Dominguez gets hit by a pitch, steals second and advances to third on the wild throw, then scores on a McMahon single through the drawn-in infield. This would make it 8-5 NYY.

  • Luke Weaver pitched the eighth inning, and after giving up a leadoff single on the first pitch he threw, Weaver got two flyouts to right and a strikeout to end the inning.

  • Needing as much insurance as they could get, Judge would have his third hit of the game, a single in front of Bellinger, who would hit a huge two-run home run off Genesis Cabrera.

  • Comilo Doval came in for the ninth inning to shut the door and pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Yankees bullpen did not allow a run tonight in 4.1 innings of work, which is really good to see. The Yankees also gained a game on the Blue Jays with their loss to the Rays, and are now four games back with ten to play.
