HOUSTON, TX — Instant Reaction to the Yankees’ 7-1 victory over the Astros in the first of three in Houston, improving to 77-61 on the season.

  • The Yankees would take a 2-0 lead over Framber Valdez and the Astros on a Jazz Chisholm Jr. two-run home run in the second inning. It was just the second left-on-left home run that Valdez gave up this season.

  • In the fourth inning with a runner on first and two outs, Jose Caballero swung at a pitch that hit him and while pleading his case with home plate umpire Ramone De Jesus, he was thrown out of the game. It marks Caballero’s second ejection with the Yankees since being traded here on July 31st.

  • The Yankees would load the bases with one out on a walk to Goldschmidt and back-to-back singles by Bellinger and Judge to set the table for the heart of their order. While Stanton would strike out — though there were some bad calls in the at-bat, not the last one — Trent Grisham decided that two left-on-left home runs were not enough off Valdez so he added a huge two-out Grand Slam to put the Yankees up 6-0. in the fifth inning. It marked Grisham’s second Grand Slam of the week. Trent Grisham also became the first Yankee to hit three Grand Slams in a season since Nick Swisher in 2012.

  • Max Fried’s Final Line: 7.0 IP | 4 H | 1 R/ER | 3 BB | 5 K | 101-64 P/S | 2.98 ERA

    • For the third start in a row, Max Fried delivered an excellent outing. He took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and allowed just one run over seven innings of work. The defense behind him was very good, but Max Fried’s personal defense helped him out as well. The key to this start for Fried — throwing strikes effectively. Even though the strike zone of Ramon De Jesus was very shaky, Fried’s secondary stuff was very sharp and he dealt against a dangerous Astros lineup.

  • With some chirping from Aaron Boone and the Yankees dugout during the Chisholm at-bat in the eighth inning, Jazz silenced everyone with is second left-on-left home run of the game, making it 7-1 Yankees in the eighth inning. It was also Jazz’s third hit of the game — all against Lefties.

  • Paul Blackburn was first out of the Yankees bullpen, and he struck out the heart of the Astros lineup — Correa, Altuve, and Walker — to work a scoreless eighth inning. Blackburn stayed in and did the same thin in the ninth inning.
