THE BRONX, NY — Instant Reaction to the Yankees 3-2 win over the O’s, winning eighth straight games, finishing with a 94-68 record, but due to their head-to-head record against the Blue Jays, the Yankees will play in the wildcard series against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.
After Luis Gil worked a ten-pitch 1-2-3 first inning, Ben Rice clobbered a 421 foot home run to dead center to give the Yankees an early 1-0 lead.
Luis Gil was cruising through the first three innings before giving up back-to-back one-out solo home runs to Westberg and Henderson, giving the O’s a 2-1 lead.
The Yankees came back with three straight hits, capped off by an RBI single from Stanton. Then, Wells, Volpe, and McMahon all struck out to end the inning and keep the game tied.
Big G delivers 👊

The Yankees threatened in the fifth inning, but could not score after Jose Caballero was picked off at second base on this strange play that should have been called obstruction.
Jose Caballero gets picked off
He didn't make it back to the base because Gunnar Henderson's foot was in the way. Paul O'Neill and David Cone were in the broadcast booth saying that should have been ruled an illegal play by Henderson

Fernando Cruz was the first out of the bullpen, and worked a scoreless inning around a lot of trouble, and some nice plays behind him, and by him. Cruz continues to struggle with the walks as of late.

Luke Weaver was next out of the bullpen, and he worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning with two strikeouts in what could be his final regular season game with the Yankees.
The Yankees went 1-2-3, all on strikeouts in the seventh inning.
Devin Williams had the eighth inning, and allowed a leadoff single, but nothing else, working a scoreless frame.
Ben Rice lead the eighth inning off with a solo home run, giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead, needing just three outs.
Twice for Rice! 🍚🍚
