BALTIMORE, MD — Instant Reaction to the Yankees extra inning win against the Orioles, improving to 88-68 on the season.

  • The Yankees were held scoreless through the first five innings, with just one hit, a leadoff single in the second inning by Ben Rice. Braddish struck out eight in those five innings.

  • Cam Schlittler was looking dominant to begin his outing, until Samuel Basallo broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning with a solo shot onto Eutaw street. For Basallo, it was his fourth home run of the season.

  • The Yankees came storming right back after a walk to Grisham and a Judge hit by pitch lead to a two-out RBI single by Ben Rice to tie the game. The Yankees nearly took the lead, but Carlson robbs Jasson Dominguez in the gap of a two-run double.

  • Cam Schlittler pitched really well today, but was lifted with one out in the sixth inning of a tie game. Tim Hill came on and got the final two outs to keep the game tied.

  • The Yankees had a chance to take the lead in the seventh inning and wasted it. Caballero reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on an E5 by the third baseman Jackson and after Goldschmidt grounded out with two outs, Stanton was intentionally walked pinch hitting for Wells and Grisham struck out to end the inning.

  • Tim Hill stayed in to get the first out of the seventh inning, before being lifted for Fernando Cruz, who came in and only got one out, walking the first hitter, and allowing a bloop single to the last he faced. Luke Weaver came in to clean up the mess and after issuing a walk to load the bases, got Jackson Holliday to ground out and leave the bases loaded.

  • The Yankees loaded the bases, all with two outs, in the eighth inning on a Rice Double, a Jasson Dominguez infield single and an intentional walk to Jazz, but Jose Caballero grounded out on the first pitch he saw to end the inning.

  • Devin Williams came in for the eighth inning and struck out the side on his 31st birthday.

  • The Yankees (Goldschmidt, Grisham, and Volpe), all went down on strikes in the top of the ninth inning.

  • David Bednar was able to keep the game scoreless and send it to the tenth inning.

  • The Yankees would take the lead in the tenth inning after a walk to Judge, and a single to Bellinger loaded the bases for Ben Rice who hit a Grand Slam off Orioles closer Keegan Akin. After a strikeout of Slater, Jazz would also hit a solo homer off Akin, knocking him out of the game.

  • The O’s would go to the ‘pen, and Volpe adds an RBI single to make it a 7-1 game.

  • Comilo Doval came in for the bottom of the 10th inning and got two quick outs before walking back-to-back hitters to load the bases with two outs, but worked out of trouble, striking out the next batter to end the game, and complete the series win.

The Yankees are now a season-high 10 games over .500 and their magic number to clinch a postseason birth is 3.
