Takeaways
The Offense
The Offense, once again, struggled today, besides the third inning where they scored three runs, but that was not enough. The Yankees have shown this weakness throughout the year of not putting pressure on their opponent in the late innings.
Oh, and the offense continues to not score runs in extra innings on the road. They are now 1–6 in extra innings. Judge came up with the bases loaded and two outs and pops out to end the inning.
The Yankeed did finally score a run, on a wild pitch in the 11th, but Mark Leiter Jr. did not have it in the 11th and allowed the game to get away.
Starting Pitching Analysis
Carlos Rodón was cruising today, going six innings and giving up no runs. Rodón only had 88 pitches when he was pulled, so I don’t know why the Yankees did not leave him in the game.
Bullpen Usage
Jonathan Loáisiga was the first out of the bullpen and got the first batter he faced, and then he walked a batter (even though it looked like a strikeout), then allowed two infield hits and a bases-clearing double, tying the game at the time. Fernando Cruz then came on and he stranded the runner at second base. Luke Weaver came out for the eighth inning and works a scoreless inning. Devin Williams pitched a 1–2–3 ninth inning, sending the game to extras. Mark Leiter Jr. pitched a 1–2–3 tenth inning, not allowing the ghost runner to move, sending the game to the eleventh.
