Takeaways

The Offense

The offense got started in the first with Judge hitting his 36th home run of the season and 351st overall, tying him with Alex Rodriguez for sixth most in Yankees history.

Then, a little two-out rally started by Stanton (who was 3-5 today) lead to an RBI single from Goldschmidt, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead before Stroman could throw a pitch.

The Yankees would add two more runs on a Vivas hit by pitch and a Jazz double in the gap, scoring Judge from first for a pivotal insurance run.

Starting Pitching Analysis

Marcus Stroman was better than expected today. From a guy that should not be in the Yankees rotation under normal circumstances, six innings of one-run ball when the bullpen is super short is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Stroman has started four games since returning from the IL and has gone at least five innings and giving up three runs or less in each, pitching to a 3.00 ERA in those starts. Can’t ask for much more than that.

Bullpen Usage

The bullpen was sold today, with the only damage being a solo home run from Ronald Acũna Jr. off Devin Williams in the ninth inning. Ian Hamilton and Tim Hill both had scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth.
