Takeaways
The Offense
The Yankees offense got started off the bat, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Yankees kept adding on runs through the game to keep the distance between what the Mariners were making up off the Yankees bullpen. Jazz Chisholm Jr. had two home runs, Jasson Dominguez had three hits out of the leadoff spot. The Yankees offense might be back.
Anthony Volpe continues to be an offensive concern, having another tough day at the plate. He did record a hit, but a bad baserunning play by Volpe had him thrown out trying to advance to second.
Starting Pitching Analysis
Cam Schlittler made his MLB debut today, and I think it went well. Schlittler threw some of the fastest pitches of any Yankee pitcher this season. He was able to strike out Cal Raleigh twice, and rung up seven overall. The three runs all scored on home runs, two surrendered by Schittler, one by the bullpen. Overall, a solid debut for the kid. Welcome to the show!!

Cam Schlittler made his MLB debut!
It was an electric debut for Schlittler as he hit 100 MPH on his fastball and flashed with strong breaking balls. His control was solid, but his outing was ultimately spoiled by the long ball. Nonetheless, it was a very encouraging start!

Bullpen Usage
Jonathan Loaisiga was the first out of the bullpen, and he had a really rough outing. He gave up three runs and two home runs. Loaisiga has surrendered six home runs this season, more than all of 2022. His ERA is up to 4.84 on the season. Luke Weaver was the next out of the pen, and threw five pitches to retire the side, including one strikeout on a nasty changeup. Weaver stayed in for the eighth inning and threw a scorless inning around a 1-out HBP. Weaver getting back to normal would be huge for the Yankees bullpen, given their deficiencies.
