Takeaways

The Offense

The offense has made a bit of a habit of starting slowly in their past three games. Judge broke up the perfect game with a 2-out double in the fourth. Judge would add another double later on. Boyd was dominant, throwing eight scoreless innings, allowing just four hits. Tip your cap.

Bellinger extended his hitting streak to 17 straight games in the ninth inning. That’s a career high. Judge followed up with his 350th career home run and third hit of the game.

Starting Pitching Analysis

Max Fried did not have his stuff, at all today. Fried pitched just three innings and threw 73 pitches. It seemed that he had a blister on his left hand, contributing to his lack of command. Hopefully, the extra rest from the all star break will help with Fried’s recovery.

Bullpen Usage

Ian Hamilton was the first out of the bullpen, and he retired all six batters he faced. Scott Effross was the next up out of the Yankees bullpen, and retired the three hitters he faced. Loaisiga came out for the seventh inning and retired the side in order, but Boone tried bringing him out for the eighth inning, but he surrendered a home run to Carson Kelly to lead off the inning. That is the seventh home run surrendered by Loaisiga, a new career high. Tim Hill was the next out of the Yankees pen, and threw just four pitches to get three outs. J.T. Brubaker came out for the ninth inning and retired the side in a scoreless inning.
