Takeaways

The Offense

The Yankees offense was slow to start, but the Yankees got it going in the third inning, with Peraza leading off with an infield single, Dominguez with a single, Judge with a Sac Fly and Bellinger with a two-run homer. Bellinger would hit another two-run homer in the fifth inning (almost had a third). Volpe had his first hit in what feels like a year, with an RBI double down the line. Goldschmidt and Escarra both add on with an RBI singles in the seventh inning, extending the Yankees lead. Then, Bellinger hits his third home run of the game in the eighth inning. Then two doubles — from Rice and Goldschmidt — brought home another run.

Starting Pitching Analysis

Carlos Rodon was named an all-star today. He pitched like an all-star tonight, shutting down the potent Cubs offense.

Bullpen Usage

Scott Effross pitched the ninth inning.
