THE BRONX, NY — After much consideration, here are my thoughts on last night’s loss the next morning after sleeping on it.
⚾️: While I get pulling Fried, I think leave him until the next baserunner. Fried said postgame "I definitely had enough in the tank for whatever the team needed". He is your Ace, ride him.
⚾️: Weaver should NOT have been the first choice out of the Pen'. He has awful numbers in the 7th inning — 6.86 ERA in 28 G — and against Boston this year — 6.08 ERA vs. BOS in 12 games — in his career. Can't walk Rafiela after being up 0-2 in the count.
⚾️: The Analytic Department's lineup decisions that Boone got to answer about were awful. I get Rosario in the lineup, but starting Caballero over Jazz is the wrong choice, and it costed the Yankees vs. Chapman because Rosario would have been in the five hole, not Chisholm. Wells was a net negative last night, Rice should have been behind the plate because he could have made an impact with his bat. Wells’ defense was not exactly great last night, and that will likely be the defense (play on words) of why he was in the lineup.
⚾️: Stanton was 0-4 and could not come up in the biggest spots (first and second, one out B1, bases loaded, no outs B9). That costed the Yankees the game right there. I said yesterday and i’ll say it again, if Stanton and Judge don’t hit, this team will be on their way home.
⚾️: Cora knows how to run a team, and it shows. Boone was given the tools from the FO in the offseason and at the deadline, admitting himself that this is the best roster he has had going in, and does not know how to manage it.
If the Yankees can find a way to win tonight and tomorrow and get past Boston, this noise all goes away. If they lose this series, the noise will get louder.
